Case Study: Belinda - Skills Bootcamp in Pharmacy

Our ‘Bridging the Gap’ Skills Bootcamp in Pharmacy is a pharmacy specific training programme that runs for 10 weeks for 1 day per week. It gives learners an understanding of what it means to work in a pharmacy as a Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician and the role they play in pharmacies across England. As part of the programme, the Skills Bootcamp supports learners access an interview with an employer. 

We recently spoke to Belinda, one of our learners at the beginning of her Skills Bootcamp in Pharmacy journey to understand what attracted her to the programme and what she's looking to get out of it.

The coursework covers essential topics such as pharmacology, customer service, and inventory management, which I can immediately see the importance of and if I gain a role in a pharmacy I can put these into practice straightaway. This combination of practical work and academic study not only enhances my understanding but also keeps me motivated and excited about my future in pharmacy. 

WT: How are you managing your studying? 
B: I am managing studying through careful planning and time management. Prioritising tasks and setting clear goals help me stay focused and efficient. Staying organised and maintaining a healthy work-life balance through regular breaks and self-care keeps me motivated and on track. 

WT: What are you going to do after you’ve completed the programme?  
B: After completing the Skills Bootcamp in Pharmacy and hopefully an apprenticeship, I plan to further advance my career in pharmacy by pursuing specialised roles or additional certifications, depending on my interests. I aim to gain experience in areas such as clinical pharmacy or pharmacy management, which will deepen my expertise and open up opportunities for advancement. Additionally, I might consider pursuing further education or training to stay current with industry developments and expand my professional skills. Ultimately, I aspire to take on leadership roles within the field and contribute to improving patient care and pharmacy practice.
