Organisation, leadership, communication, and management to name a few of the skills apprentices gain on the Associate Project Manager apprenticeship. These skills can be applied no matter the task being worked on, meaning your business is in safe hands.

We spoke to Associate Project Manager Rebecca Heesom to hear how she found the programme and how she's applied her learning in her role.

Woodspeen Training (WT): What made you chose an apprenticeship?
Rebecca Heesom (RH): As I have been in full time employment since I was 18, continuing to gain an education was of high priority to me. Being offered the opportunity to learn on the job seemed like the perfect way to gain further qualifications whilst applying this through vital experience.

WT: Why did you choose your course?
RH: I chose this course as I have always had a keen interest in progressing my career in project management. The specification for this apprenticeship covered many areas that I know are relevant to my role and would offer me the ability to gain knowledge that I can carry forward to future roles.

WT: What do you do day-to-day?
RH: I currently work within Operations for a Mobile app development company. Managing resource and key tasks for projects and programmes of many sizes that move at an extremely fast pace due to the agile lifecycle.

WT: What do you love about your apprenticeship?
RH: I enjoyed getting to meet the other apprentices within my cohort and getting insight from their industries. As I come from an extremely agile background, it was very useful context for me to learn alternative ways to successfully run a project.

WT: How do you manage studying and working?
RH: My company were extremely supportive in my studying and allowed me exposure to aspects of projects that would help me contextualise my learning. Personally, I had to ensure strict time management and schedules to ensure I stayed on top of my workload and met deadlines.

WT: What are you going to do now you’ve qualified?
RH: Since qualifying, I have gained a new role and apply the learnings from my apprenticeship every day, whether that is consciously or without even realising. This course helped speed up my knowledge and understanding of project management that I imagine would have taken me years to gain organically.
