Case Study: Manal Zhiri - Public Service Delivery Officer Skills Bootcamp

January 2025 saw Woodspeen Training launch the first Public Service Delivery Officer Skills Bootcamp. This Skills Bootcamp programme offers participants the opportunity to learn more about the public sector, the varied roles from Local Authorities to the NHS, Central Government to schools, the public sector touches so many different elements of community life.

We spoke to Manal Zhiri to hear their experience of the Public Service Delivery Officer Skills Bootcamp and what they plan to do now they've completed the programme.

Name: Manal Zhiri

Age: 24

Woodspeen Training (WT): What made you chose to do the Public Service Delivery Officer Skills Bootcamp?
Manal Zhiri (MZ): I received an email in my inbox one day, advertising the opportunity. Not sure if I signed up to receive those kinds of emails from a jobsearch website or if my work coach put me forward but I am grateful for it. I chose to start and continue doing it because of the promising outlook as well as the approachability of skills tutors and colleagues such as Venetia, Sophie, and Sam.

WT: What have you enjoyed about the Public Service Delivery Officer Skills Bootcamp?
MZ: Their friendliness and willingness to help was the main thing I really appreciated during the course. However, I do also have to say I really enjoyed the interactive aspect of the sessions, it kept everyone active and engaged, which is unlike other courses where it can become very dull very quickly.

WT: What are your plans after you’ve finished the course?
MZ: I plan to finish and amend my CV to apply for salaried jobs where I can work remotely from home or on a hybrid schedule. This is because of ADHD and the difficulties I tend to experience in a more “social” workplace. Venetia was absolutely understanding when I asked her about my options and how to go forward from there, she has gone to great lengths to support me in a time of uncertainty, which I am very glad for. This applies to the other skills tutors and colleagues who have been incredibly supportive as well. Thank you so much and keep it up!
